World Famous Fresh Water Fishing


Fishing has long been a good sport on Kootenay Lake, Our Gerard is the biggest trout in the lake, while the Sturgeon is the biggest fish, they are a protected species now.  Kokanee is a good fish for the kids to enjoy fishing so as they come to like the sport too.

Boating - Kayaking - Sailing


For the water enthusiast kayaking is so relaxing when the lake is calm like glass, you can hear the sound of the loons, and the swish of your paddle as you glide easily. Rentals are available from Hellman Canoe and Kayak. Kootenay Lake is a great place to sail especially when the breeze comes down the mountains; sailing charters are available at Sail With Us.

Hiking - Biking - Motorbike Touring


Hiking the area is for the beginner to the advanced hiker, a map and guide to local trails is available, most of the trails are easy walking, with the rougher parts being out along the upper levels.

Mountain biking trails, varied and challenging terrain around the Grey Creek Pass, and Nelson area, and again a Guide of the trails and rides is available.
Bike rentals are available at the Sacred Ride Inc. and Gericks Cycle and Ski in Nelson. Victorian Rose provides secure on-site lock-up for bikes.

If you are biking one of the Circle Routes - the ultimate escape - a seven- to ten-day vacation route that gives you a taste of mountain grandeur, the succulent fruits of the Okanagan Valley, and endless outdoor adventure. Wander in ghost towns, soak in hot springs, play a round of championship golf, and visit some of the country's finest wineries. About 1,260 km (783mi).

We are on the International Selkirk Loop - a Scenic Drive that winds its way through the Selkirk Mountains of Washington, Idaho and British Columbia ... to the Northern Rockies. Take the vacation destination across on the Ferry and traveling toward Nelson, Proctor Harop, and the Ainsworth area’s is superb as the road is wide enough to make biking enjoyable.

The Golf Courses in the direct Area consist of Kokanee Springs Golf Resort (18 hole), Balfour Golf Course (18-hole), and Riondel Golf Club has a 9-hole with 9 on the back, par 3 beautiful courses.

Kootenay Bay Winter activities: Skiing - Snowmobiling


Let’s not forget the winter activities, Cross country skiing, on the Nelson Nordic track at White Water Ski Resort, a quick ferry ride and 45 minute drive puts you at the groomed trails. Downhill skiing is also available at White Water Ski Resort
